PADI IDC Questions to Ask

Here are some questions often asked about our IDC Course Asia in Sabah, Malaysia.

Can I fail an IDC?

No, because it’s an instructor development course. You will be evaluated to be sure, but will be trained until you reach the level sufficient to pass your Instructor Examination IE.

The Instructor Development Course IDC is like other PADI dive courses – performance based. So feel at ease to learn by making mistakes. Our resident PADI Course Director and GoPro Team are there to help you reach your goal, no matter what.

What is involved in the IDC?

During the 10 days of the Instructor Development Course IDC you are looking at about 80 hours of class activities, 35 of which will be presentations conducted by our resident PADI Course Director or IDC Staff Instructors.

Your will learn about the PADI System of Diver Eduction and how to teach it yourself.

You make a minimum of 12 teaching presentation yourself, 4 in our class room, 4 in confined water and 4 in open water.

Is there extra time to prepare for the IDC?

Absolutely! The IDC Course Asia includes free IDC prep prior to the start of each Instructor Development Course IDC. Our resident course director and GoPro team is also at your disposal any time during the IDC to help you with areas in which you may need more attention, to ensure you are fully prepared for the Instructor Exam IE.

What happens if I fail the Instructor Exam?

Failure is not an option. Cliches aside, PADI’s performance-based system can’t be failed – instead you remain uncertified until you can demonstrate the level of knowledge and skill evaluated for during the Instructor Exam – which is what the IDC prepares you for.

Which part of the IE is most often failed?

PADI statistics show it’s dive theory exams. However, they are similar to Divemaster exams. Remember those? You had to pass them to get to the IDC.
