PADI IDC Instructor Exam (IE)

The Sabah, Malaysia PADI Instructor Examination IE is a standardized, objective evaluation of Instructor Development candidates conducted by PADI Instructor Examiners from PADI Asia Pacific, who fly to Kota Kinabalu several times a year.

PADI Instructor Examination in Sabah, Malaysia

The Instructor Examination (IE) in Borneo is a 2 day examination during which Instructor candidates must successfully complete the following exams and demonstrate the required skills:

  • 5-part Theory Exam
  • PADI Systems, Standards and Procedures Exam
  • Knowledge Development Prescribed Teaching Presentation
  • Demonstrate Quality Five Skill Circuit
  • Confined Water Teaching Presentation
  • Rescue of an unresponsive diver at the surface & demonstrate pocket mask usage or mouth-to-mouth
  • Open Water Teaching Presentation with 2 skills combined (from the Open Water, Advanced Open Water or Rescue Diver courses, assigned by the Instructor Examiner)

In order to earn the PADI Open Water SCUBA Instructor certification, the Instructor candidate must successfully complete all components of the PADI Instructor Examination IE.

Our IDC Instructor Development Courses in Malaysia are usually scheduled to end just before the Instructor Exam IE in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, so that our candidates are well prepared with fresh knowledge.

Here’s what to expect from the IDC Instructor Examinations IE:

IDC IE Orientation & Exams

The afternoon before, you will receive an Instructor Exam IE orientation and sit the PADI Dive Theory and PADI Standard & Procedure exams.

You will also receive your assignments for the following 2 days, which relates to your knowledge development plus confined and open water modules.

For some, time causes panic, but by the time you’ve completed your IDC Course Asia you will have done many practice exams and your PADI Course Director and GoPro Team will have eased your stress.

Next you start preparing for the next days by readying your presentation. This is where the IDC candidate team work setup can really benefit you so do team up with your fellow IDC candidates.

Preparing for the Instructor Examination in Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia

Day 1

Today the PADI IDC Instructor Exam IE is all about the confined water and knowledge development sections with presentation and skills sessions – our resident PADI Course Director and GoPro Team will prepared you well for this.

Day 2

The last stretch of the PADI IDC Instructor Exam IE! Today you move on to the open water section with a teaching presentation and 2 open water skills.

The Instructor Examiner will also evaluate your PADI Rescue skills.

It’s a great day to show off the development of your confidence and teaching skills during your IDC Course Asia.

Congrats, you’re an OWSI!

Now that you’ve passed the Instructor Exam IE – and we know you will – you are an Open Water SCUBA Instructor OWSI qualified to teach a variety of experience programs; once you recover from the celebrations, that is.

You are now licensed to teach Open Water, Advanced Open Water, Rescue and Divemasters SCUBA diving courses as well as Peak Performance Buoyancy, AWARE Coral Reef Conservation and Project AWARE Speciality courses.
