A professional diving internship is the perfect commitment for SCUBA divers who have set a serious goal of becoming a PADI SCUBA diving professional with 1-3 months to spare.
A SCUBA diving internship in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah gives prospective diving professionals the opportunity to immerse themselves in the business of diving by developing their abilities, smoothing out the learning curve and gaining them valuable real-life, hands-on experience of the dive industry.
Those who graduate as diving professionals from a professional diving internship can hit the ground running, ready for immediate employment in even the busiest of dive centres.
Who to choose as your dive internship and education centre? This is the most important question when it comes to choosing where to do your professional diving internship and ultimately gain your professional diving qualification.
There are several aspects to consider about a dive internship:
- What experience do the dive centre operators have?
- Who are the people that will teach you?
- Do they have the facilities to teach you the real business of diving?
- Are they busy enough for plenty of hands-on, real-life teaching scenarios?
Dive Centre Experience
A wide variety of experiences are available at our busy dive centre during your IDC Asia or professional dive internship, because our team dives and conduct PADI SCUBA diver training courses everyday.
We frequently take care of groups of all sizes, from 4 to 40 and on a daily basis conduct the spectrum of PADI courses from snorkeling to Emergency First Response and Instructor Development Courses IDC.
Downbelow’s dive centre has the experience you need for a successful dive internship to become a well-rounded instructor.
IDC Asia is run by Downbelow, a dedicated team of highly qualified PADI dive professionals based at the PADI 5 STAR IDC Dive Centre that specialises in diver training and professional SCUBA diving internships.
The Go PRO IDC Team, with over 60 years worth of professional SCUBA diving training experience between them, are directly responsible for your training. They Team Teach to give you widest possible exposure to their experience.
The Go PRO IDC Team aside, Downbelow also employs 10 other full time PADI Instructors.
Business of Diving Facilities
The IDC Asia takes place at Downbelow’s PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre, which consists of the full service beach house dive station on Gaya Island, and the classrooms are located at our Head Office, which is also the same location as our fully stocked Dive Shop and Travel Centre in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
Confined water training takes place immediately in front of the dive centre where we are blessed with a natural training lagoon. Open water dive sites start literally a giant stride away from our jetty, with the rest a few minutes away by one of our 4, custom-built fast dive boats.
Our well stocked equipment room can, and frequently does, accommodate very large groups. We have 2 compressor stations, including NITROX, ensuring high quality and diverse dive education.
We also have an ongoing local internship program that provides dive career development opportunities to local people.
Local and international candidates alike benefit from this program through exposure to new languages, cultures, traditions and new friendships.
Dive Every Day
All our interns on our professional diving internships receive unlimited SCUBA diving.
This is possible on your IDC Asia at Downbelow, because our dive centre is on the beach at Gaya Island, which in turn is located in the protected Tunku Abdul Rahman Park (TAR Park) with the training lagoon and house reef a few metres from our Dive Centre’s doorstep.
What’s more, is that all this just 10 minutes by boat from the city of Kota Kinabalu. Now you know why we can dive every day!
