Diving Intern & IDC Candidate Gains Unique Experience

Net aside, Ribbon Reef is beautifulThere’s never a dull moment when you’re on a professional diving internship with Downbelow on Gaya island in Kota Kinabalu.

With unlimited diving for all our diving interns and the fact that we dive every day from our Gaya island based dive centre, inters dive as much as their bottom time allows.

Being a busy PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre in a paradise holiday location means abundant opportunities to teach a variety of clientele the spectrum of PADI courses.

And being situated, as we are, in a national marine park, with the environment close to our hearts and Project AWARE inspiring our environmental action, our interns get plenty of conservation action to boot.

During the months of October and November alone, we removed a total of 3 illegal fishing nets that got snared on the reefs in the park.  Our interns were involved every time.

During the most recent removal, professional intern Shevy had the opportunity to do the dive briefing for the net removal operation, gaining for himself experience which will undoubted be valuable in his professional career.

Read more about that Project AWARE operation on our My Ocean page, and check out the pictures in our Project AWARE Clean-up Events album.
