We’ve received a new shipment of interesting products at our dive shop in Kota Kinabalu.
PADI Course Director Richard, who knows his way around light rigs, took one of the exciting products – the Sola Dive 500 – out for a test.
“It rocks,” was the short of it after he and Downbelow’s dive crew had spent some time with the Sola Dive 500.
Richard used the hands free light while conducting the deep dive scenario with our Divemaster Interns.
“The light performed perfectly at 30+m,” reported Richard after the dive. “Being factory sealed with no given reason to open it, due to it being bulb-less and externally rechargeable, it is virtually flood proof.”
Richard, a professional underwater photographer, said “It’s a huge advantage with this unit. I have personally owned numerous underwater lights and at some point all have flooded, so this essential piece of dive equipment is a breath of fresh air.”
“It was the brightest of all 8 torches”, said PADI Instructor Tim who was second to put it through its paces when guiding our latest night dive. “It had a much longer burn time to boot.”
Also participating by putting it to good use on a macro dive during dull, cloudy conditions while searching out critters, PADI Instructor Vic reported, “It had not been charged since the night dive, but still burned strong the entire dive.”
Richard says that this product is also environmentally very friendly – no more discarding of used batteries.
“All in all this is an excellent value, light but tough, virtually flood free, long lasting, rechargeable, eco friendly, easy to use, minimal maintenance hands free dive light,” was his final conclusion.
The Sola Dive 500 is in stock at Downbelow’s Dive Shop in Kota Kinabalu and, along with a few other Sola models, are also offered for rent at our PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre on Gaya island, Kota Kinabalu.
