It’s been a busy week at Downbelow’s PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre here offshore Kota Kinabalu in Sabah as we’re hosting two large groups.
The one group comes to us from the Sandakan Politeknik. They’re spending a week with us doing a whole manner of courses and learning about the environment as part of the Tourism Management course they are studying.
Another group, via our friends at Wild Borneo Expeditions, is another bunch of students from an international school all the way from the UAE.
Where some people may see a busy crowd, our environmentally passionate instructors and interns see voices to stand up against the declining shark populations.
Project AWARE is very active in the fight to protect sharks, and one of the weapons in their arsenal is the shark petition. It shows legislators that the world’s population is against the destruction of shark populations and we want it stopped.
So the more signatures we get, the more weight it carries and the more likely the people in power are to implement laws that will ultimate save sharks.
To that effect our staff and interns explained to the groups about sharks and why their signatures are voices are needed.
Together we collection more signatures for the cause and opened many more eyes to what’s happening to the sharks in our oceans.
Little by little, we’ll make a difference together.
