Downbelow conducted an Emergency First Response EFR course today, primarily for our professional dive interns Denise & Andy for whom its a requirement.
The staff from Downbelow, who either have never or not recently had First Aid training, also joined the SCUBA diving interns, because we like to have all our staff EFR trained.
Two courses were presented to the interns and staff during the Emergency First Response EFR course, namely the Emergency First Response course – which deals with primary and secondary care, and the EFR for Children & Infants.
The Kota Kinabalu Emergency First Response course is designed to equip people first on the scene with the knowledge and confidence to assist with emergencies such as cardiac arrest, drownings, broken limbs and chocking, until paramedics arrive.
Because children and especially infants have a slightly different physiology, there is a special Emergency First Response course to deal with them. It highlights the differences that could impact the survival and recovery of a child or infant.
Even though the topic is serious, the course has a light hearted tone to it to encourage learning. The 3 CPR dummies were used to great effect, and bandages and fake blood make the practical session interactive.
You never know when you will end up in an emergency situation, but our staff and SCUBA diving interns are now prepared for anything, following their Emergency First Response Course in Kota Kinabalu.
