The first of 3 Gap Year groups from the UK has arrived at our dive centre on Gaya island here in Kota Kinabalu.
The groups will spend some time with Downbelow in Borneo and will start by learning how to dive at our PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre in Kota Kinabalu.
Over the next few days our island crew will teach 24 PADI Open Water Courses, 5 PADI Advanced Open Water Courses, and 31 AWARE Coral Reef Aware courses.
In between there will be loads of fun diving as well, as the Gap Year group is staying at our dive centre in tent accommodation and will undoubtedly itch to go diving as much as possible.
The group also offers unique opportunities for our professional scuba diving interns, who are assisting our professional instructors.
Group experience is simply impossible to simulate without having, well, a group. So Downbelow is in a unique position to be able to offer this kind of experience to our professional interns.
They will learn a lot of about group risk management and safety, which we take very seriously here at Downbelow. The invaluable experience will help not just them, but future employers as well, and is an attractive edition to their professional diver resumes.
It’s going to be a fun month as we’ll have plenty of both interns and groups on the island, so stay tuned to follow their adventures, or contact us to join and have your own
