Intern Experiences Family Open Water Instruction

Luke learning the ropes from Wellson presenting the PADI Open Water Course to this family

A happy family joined us recently to take on the world of diving together and signed up for the PADI Open Water Course at our dive centre on Gaya island in Kota Kinabalu.

Professional Scuba Intern and November IDC candidate Luke was on hand to witness and learn.

Luke has been on the island for a couple of weeks. He decided to join early and gain as much experience as possible in order to fully prepare himself for the next PADI IDC course.

The family of 4 – 2 adults and 2 children – were under the watchful eye of Downbelow’s experienced PADI IDC Staff Instructor Wellson. Luke assisted Wellson to gain very useful experience and sponge a few tips from Wellson’s knowledge.

The PADI Open Water Scuba Diver course is suitable for everyone above the age of 10, and as the family’s children were either that age or above, they all qualified and didn’t need to take the junior version of the open water course.

One of the skills an instructor relies on heavily is that of presentations. Especially when the students are younger, it takes special knowledge to present the courses in an engaging and informative manner and Luke had the opportunity to absorb Wellson’s knack of connecting with students irrespective of age.

The family had loads of fun qualifying as PADI Open Water Scuba Divers. Wellson did his usual great job and Luke learned a lot and looks forward to assisting on his next experience.
