At Home in Sabah, Borneo
Many years ago when British expats Richard and Joanne visited Sabah, Borneo for the first time, they quickly realised that this land is much more than a biological melting pot.
They recognised the potential for travelers, sports enthusiasts, adventure training, team buildings events, and most importantly, SCUBA diving development.
Eager to replicate the success of their UK company, Downbelow Dive Centre, they came to establish themselves in Sabah, Malaysia and started on the adventure of introducing this fascinating place to clients.
Widely traveled for work and play, Richard & Joanne are a highly qualified PADI Course Director & PADI Master Instructor respectively, with more than 20 speciality instructor qualifications, including ReBreather & TecRec, between them.
In the late 90’s the couple was taking corporate groups to America, Africa, Nepal and Asia, which is how they ended up in Borneo, where they found some of the world’s best SCUBA diving, coastline, tropical islands and ocean.
Instead of taking groups from the UK to exotic destinations such as Borneo, the couple decided in 2004 that Downbelow UK would move and bring people to them instead.
In 2005 Downbelow re-located to Sabah.
